Porcelain Veneers in Houston, TX

A person smiling; on the left side, the teeth look slightly more yellow than on the right side.

You’ve put in the work to get and maintain healthy teeth. But what if your smile still doesn’t look quite how you’d like it? Maybe there are chips, gaps, even stains or discoloration in your teeth. Bellaire Modern Dental in Houston offers porcelain veneers, a simple solution to achieve the smile of your dreams.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are a natural-looking shell of material that are bonded to the teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can be used to correct gaps, misshapenness, and crookedness, as well as cover discoloration, deep stains, cracks, and chips in the teeth. After an initial consultation, veneers can often be applied in just two office visits.

First Appointment

The first porcelain veneer appointment is all about preparation, designing, and building. The first step is to remove a small amount of the tooth’s natural enamel to make room for the veneer and provide a rough surface for the porcelain to hold to. Unlike popular belief, the tooth isn’t shaved down to a little nub or peg, since porcelain veneers are less than .5 mm thick. Once the teeth are shaped, your dental team will make a mold of your teeth and mouth that will be used to create your veneers. If necessary, temporary veneers may be placed on your teeth until the final ones are ready.

Second Appointment

When you return, your porcelain veneers should be completed and ready for application. For most, this will only take one appointment, though if you are getting a large number of veneers — you can get one, two, or even a full set of front teeth — it might require multiple sessions. If you had temporary veneers applied, these will be removed first, then the completed porcelain veneers will be applied and buffed to a full shine. The process is minimally invasive, and is considered painless.

Why Porcelain Veneers?

There are different types of veneers — porcelain, composite, removable, no-prep, etc. — so why choose porcelain? Porcelain veneers are completely custom-made to your teeth, and effectively handle major aesthetic issues. Additionally, the ceramic is quite strong even while thin enough to connect to the tooth without shaving it down, holding up in day to day treatment. Porcelain also has a natural look and feel next to natural teeth.
